About Newspaper University

With the cost of training going up, even as technology and business demands change, Newspaper University is an important means of advancing employee knowledge without staff travel to off-site seminars and workshops, or attendance at periodic, in-house training classes with their accompanying high costs.

NAA — through its recently-launched Newspaper University program — now gives NAA newspaper members access to anytime, anywhere training via the Internet. It is an effective, affordable means of instructing employees across a broad range of subjects, all of which relate to the daily business of operating newspapers.

Newspaper University, with more than 1,000 courses, provides instruction in a variety subjects: from finance to IT/New Media, pressroom operations to human resources, project management to personal development. Each course is taught or developed by experts in the applicable subject area - a number from the newspaper industry. All are widely-regarded as effective, high-quality learning forums. Some courses lead to certification in Cisco, Microsoft, Novell and other IT languages.

Newspaper University offers three types of Web-based courses:

  • Live, Instructor-Led: Instructor and students meet at a specified date, time and URL, to participate in real-time instruction.
  • Mentored Learning: Instructor and students periodically attend the virtual classroom independent of one another, contributing to ongoing discussion themes and posting various types of assignments for feedback.
  • At-Your-Own-Pace Learning: Students are led through focused, highly-structured courses of study, using multimedia content and uniform training tools.

The Newspaper University courses are priced from as little as $9.95 (for the At-Your-Own-Pace courses) to $400.00 (for real-time, instructor-led IT/new media courses). A majority of courses are priced at $15.00. Select courses are available in foreign languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese and more.

NAA hopes your Newspaper University experience is both productive and enjoyable. If you have any questions, comments and/or suggestions, please contact NAA's Mike Brady at (571) 366-1129 or michael.brady@naa.org.
